The Wall Street Journal released its annual list of the
top industry analysts for 2004. The rankings were based
on a Wall Street Journal Survey of data compiled by Thomson
Financial. Only 213 analysts were selected as "Best
on the Street" from a universe of over 4000 analysts
at over 270 firms covering 44 different industries. The
ranking was based solely on stock picking. An analyst's
skill in picking stocks was measured using recommendation
and performance scores calculated on the basis of estimated
total return, including price changes and dividends, of
each eligible stock an analyst covered in a particular industry.
